Things to Do in Palm Beach by Boat on Your Vacation
You've got a few days in South Florida and a long list of plans. Here's one worth adding: get out on the water. Some of the best things to do in Palm Beach by boat can't be done any other way. Peanut Island, the sandbars and the waterfront estates are all best seen from a boat.
Palm Beach Boat Charters by Yacht Hampton makes that easy for visitors. We're a family-owned charter company with 14 years on the water. Your private boat boards at Delray Harbor Club Marina on the Intracoastal. A Coast Guard-licensed captain drives, and a concierge plans the day around your group. You don't need boating experience, and you never have to drive.
Why a Boat Day Belongs on Your Trip
Palm Beach County has about 125 miles of waterways, according to Discover The Palm Beaches. A lot of what makes this coast special sits along that water.
From a boat, you can swim off a sandbar, snorkel at Peanut Island and cruise past Palm Beach estates in one afternoon. By car, you'd see a fraction of it. A boat day also gives your group a break from crowded beaches.
Because every trip is private, it works for all kinds of visitors. Couples, big families, friend groups and work teams can all have the boat to themselves. It's one of our private boat charters in Palm Beach, built around your schedule.
Ways Visitors Spend a Day on the Water
Here are four ways to plan your trip. Each one has its own page.

What to Know Before You Visit Peanut Island
Peanut Island is a top stop for visitors. It's an 80-acre park near the Palm Beach Inlet, and you can only reach it by boat. A few park rules catch people off guard. These come from Palm Beach County Parks:
- There's no food or rental stand on the island. Bring what you need, or have our concierge set up catering on board.
- Alcohol is limited to camping permit areas. Plan to keep drinks on the boat.
- Balloons aren't allowed in the park.
- The island has beaches, a snorkeling lagoon, picnic areas and restrooms.
Snorkel gear comes with your charter, so you're ready for the lagoon.
Sandbars, Snorkeling and Seabobs
Sandbars along the Intracoastal draw boaters as low tide approaches. Boats anchor in the shallows, and people wade out to swim and relax. Beer Can Island near the Boynton Inlet is a popular spot, and it's close to our marina. Sandbars get busy on weekends and holidays, so a weekday trip can be quieter.
Want more action? Select boats carry Seabob watercraft, and you can add extra Seabobs for $500. Tubing is also available. Fishing rods and gear are a paid add-on.
A Simple Packing List for Your Boat Day
Most visitors ask what to bring. A little prep keeps the day easy, especially with kids. Here's our short list:
- Reef-safe sunscreen, hats and sunglasses.
- Swimsuits, towels and a change of clothes.
- Water shoes if you plan to walk on a sandbar.
- A waterproof bag for phones and keys.
- Snacks and drinks, unless your concierge is arranging catering.
You don't need to pack life jackets or snorkel gear. We bring those.
Tips for Snorkeling at Peanut Island
The water around Peanut Island is fed by the ocean through the Palm Beach Inlet. Clear water makes the lagoon a favorite for snorkelers. A few tips help:
- Time your visit near high tide. The hour before and after high tide is often best for clear water, according to City & Shore Magazine.
- Stay inside the marked swimming areas.
- Never touch or chase manatees or other wildlife.
- Kids should wear life jackets in the water.
Your concierge can time your Peanut Island stop around the tide.
Seeing Manatees in Winter
Visiting between November 15 and March 31? That's manatee season. On cold days, manatees gather in the warm water near Manatee Lagoon in West Palm Beach, a free FPL Eco-Discovery Center. You may spot them from the boat on a northbound trip. They're wild animals, so sightings are never guaranteed. If you see one, give it space and enjoy the moment from a distance.
Make the Rain Check Work for Your Trip
Visitors worry about one thing more than locals do: losing a booked day to weather. Our weather policy helps. If weather cancels your charter, you get a 28-month rain check. That's long enough to rebook later in your stay, or on your next trip to South Florida.
Summer brings the most afternoon storms. If you're visiting between May and October, a morning trip can lower the odds of a washout.
Fit a Boat Day Into a Short Trip
Short on time? Here's how visitors make it work.
Book your boat day early in your stay. If weather moves it, you still have room to reschedule while you're here.
Pick the trip length to match your plans. A 3 to 4 hour trip leaves your evening free. A 6 to 8 hour day lets you reach more places.
Choose a sunset cruise if your days are already full. It's an easy way to end a vacation day.
Tell your concierge what else you have planned. They can build a trip that fits around dinner reservations, flights or other plans.
